Canon 7D Canon 500mm f4 L IS tripod head ISO 250 -0.3 1/1000 sec f7.1
I took this shot in the back garden from a hide. I reduced the reds in Photoshop and did a little eye doctoring. I also brightened the rear aspect of his head a little as it was in partial shade. I was a little concerned that I had clipped his tail but the tip was obscured by the branch in any event.
All comments welcome.

Jonathan this is lovely birdie and capture. wish you have included some bottom to give feeling for virtual tail.
Also would have been good to trade some SS with increasing dof having 250 iso you could have gone min 400 and still aquired 2 more stop keeping ss

Thanks Mital, I did indeed take some at 400 ISO but I posted this one because I think the image quality is better, my previous woodpecker was ISO 400. Regards the bottom of the frame I think I could add some canvas but the tail is still missing.

Hi Jon, I like your choice of comp, and looks like the woodpecker has actually posed for you. The light quality looks great, as do the detail and colours on the woodpecker. Sharp throughout, and posed against a super clean BG.

Thanks very much everyone for the feedback. As always I find it very helpful, it is good to see the image through other people's eyes.
