I like the light as well. I would crop tighter as I find the bird small in the frame. I like the topside view. I think the head could be sharpened a bit more,

Brendan:

I like the pose, with enough bank to show the dorsal surface well. Agree about sharpening the head a bit more.

Size in the frame works for me, as it emphasizes the big water, small bird concept. I think the rolling swells add enough detail/texture to the BG to make it work. If it were just plain old blue sky, would def. crop tighter.

Just a matter of personal taste, and what story you are trying to tell.

Hi Brendan, I like these type of images too. A lonely gull soaring across the ocean, so Im fine with the space as is. Good dorsal view, and separated from sea BG very well. Where were you standing to be above the gull?

Thanks, Stuart. This was a big crop, I was on beach, slightly raised slope.

This is a nice, simple composition Brendan. I like the view of the bird, the soft light, and the color and gentle swell of the water. Just a touch of sharpening on the head for me.
