We were fairly close to the big rock in rough seas in a zodiac trying to photograph small groups and individual penguins jumping into the sea.... Realizing the great difficulty of the situation I mounted the 16-35mm lens and created this bird-scape.
Handheld Canon 16-35m f/2.8L IS II lens (at 35mm) with the EOS-5D MII. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1 stop: 1/500 sec. at f/11 set manually after blinkies/histogram check.

HI Artie...I really like this image! Love the way the sky and water just sandwich the land and the soft light on those rocks play together

Hi Arthur, love the subtle color changes on the rocks and the texture of the rocks and water. Penguins add interest. Well done. I would get rid of the tiny piece of cloud touching the upper frame edge just right of the centre. I also may add a little USM sharpness to accentuate the textures a little more.

Nicely composed, Artie, with the sky and water framing the land as Bob mentioned. Like the different layers of color and texture of rocks. Wish penguins were just a bit more distinct, but nice job adapting to your circumstances.

Liking this one a lot Artie.
I like the layering of the water to rocks to sky.
Try CEP Tonal Contrast on this one.

Figured you might have given the well-defined mid-tones and details. Should have made that a question?
I was busy with Space Coast Festival all week and weekend but you probably know that.

Hi Arthur, my favorite landscape from your trip so far. Love the color of the rocks. The sky and water are also very nice for this one.

I like the layering, the penguins and the textures/contrast. The overcast sky is very well handled and adds a lot to the mood here!

Thanks Mork-man. Detail Extractor in NIK's Color Efex Pro 4 is killer with seemingly white skies.... Click here (http://www.birdsasart-blog.com/2012/01/22/china-poot/) and scroll down to the animated GIF....
