My setup is a Nikon D3 with a 300 2.8 VR and 2xTC mounted on a Wimberley SideKick. Is there a solid reason to not use this combination with VR turned on? I lent my D200 to my granddaughter on this outing, and ended up with a bunch of photo's of myself. Couldn't resist posting my setup :-) As always, help appreciated - Bob

For what is worth I have found much better results with VR off when tripod mounted.

I would tend to agree with Steve that VR off on a tripod would be a good recommendation.

Unless the head is left loose and not locked down, then normal VR mode is better, maybe, but thats a whole another story. :)

If you lock down the head then by all means turn off VR. If you take advantage of the gimbal and panning motions of the ballhead and Sidekick and don't lock down then it is advisable to keep VR on. If you check the 300 f2.8 VR manual it will explain this in greater detail.

Hope this helps.
