This fellow flew over our heads as we were in a boat exploring the Cano Negro, Costa Rica last spring. 75% FF. If I had been quicker I might have backed off the ISO a tad and avoided some of the underwing noise.

D7000, 80-400 VR @ 360mm, ISO 1000, 1/4000s @ f/6.3, +1.0 EV. HH from boat.

Very nice pose and BG. I don't know if its my eyes but I find the head and feet soft. You are right in your critique about the noise. Did you try some NR?

Thanks Gail. I could probably sharpen the head, and certainly the feet, a bit more. I did try a selective, slight pass of Topaz DeNoise on the underwing but was afraid of softening it if I did any more.

Hi,

I agree with your own comments. Slight further contrast enhancement of the underwing and sharpening on the head would be nice. I was on the Cano Negro this Fall, and I wish I'd had a zoom lens with me, as some large birds were too close for the 300.

I'm on Gails boat as well Bill. It looks like you may have gotten some motion blur on the face. I do like the flight angle.
