Dan,

I like the rolling waves and how it draws the eye to the shore.

I reposted with the following in PSCS5.

1) Shadow/Highlight adjustment to open shadows (I find the large black rocks distracting as they draw the eye - but it did not help that much - did help larger dark are further to BG) and tone down the bright sky UL (draws eye too - S/H helped that a lot.)
2) Local contrast enhancement using USM at 20/50/0 to enhance details.
3) JPG sharpened.

Roberts adjustments made the hidden colors and tones pop out. Nicely made image.

Hey Dan, Robert's repost works better and tones down the bright upper left corner nicely. A grad filter would help tone down such a bright spot at the time of capture. Have you tried using grad filters before?

When I first saw this, I thought, great water, but too bad that bright sky distracts from it. Then Robert's repost helped so much. You might also try cropping down to just above the mountains so that the water becomes more of the focal point than the bright sky. Yes, this is a sunrise, but it does distract from the water, and the sun's glistening on the waves shows up enough IMHO.

Dan -nice scene and Robert's repost has opened it up nicely. When I first saw this I thought of cropping around the bright part of the sky so here's my attempt. I used Robert's repost and then cropped.

I do struggle with the right exposure on long exposures in the winter light.

Dan....I really like the way you saw and captured the light on the water . Roberts repost looks good to me esp the sharpening on the water and the toning down of the sky. I also like Rachel's crop. A very good image made great.....Great work!
