Happy Holidays and New Year to all. And a big thank you to all the regular contributors, and of course, a huge thanks to our dedicated moderators, Steve, Morkel and Robert. I have learned a tremendous amount from all of you and I feel that my participation on BPN has done more than any other resource (including workshops and books) to improve my photography and pp skills.

Another image I have revisited from my 2009 trip. Taken in the Timbavati Game Reserve, South Africa. Unfortunately, this lion chose to eat his impala leg partially in sun and partially in shade.

Canon 50D

f5.6
ISO 200 (should have gone to 400:e3)
HH from a safari vehicle. Luminousity mask, levels adjustment, s/h and sharpened in CS5.

C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Rachel

Congratulations on your 3000th post and on your dedication to learning. Thanks also for all your comments on my photos, much appreciated. Looking forward to another 3000!!! :S3:

I think your presentation of your images has improved out of sight and you've handled the problematic light very nicely in this one. Beautiful eyes on this boy.

Double ditto from me as well!
Your images, eagerness to learn and assimilate new information as well as your thoughtful critiques on the images of others makes you a valuable member of this community, Rachel!

Light well handled here, and I like the tight framing which I estimate has eliminated many 'distracting' elements in the scene.

PS: another "thanks for the thanks" from me :)

Congratulations on 3000 Rachel, nice image to celebrate with. I too like the tight comp, emphasises the tough times this guy has been through as well as highlighting those piercing eyes.

I agree 100% with you on the dedication and help received from the moderators on the wildlife forum as well as the value of the BPN site to aspirant photographers like myself.

Good detail captured on the lions face, and I like the tight crop here.

Just a big kitty enjoying a nice chew :bg3:. Another nicely detailed shot. I might take this in even tighter to just outside the mane if you've got the space.
And I'll echo your thanks to the moderators for the their time and help

Congratulations, Rachel. Real nice behavior image, love the chomping pose, great eyes, and battle scars on nose. Tight crop works well, and I kind of like the split lighting with this comp.
Have enjoyed both your wildlife and landscape images, TFS and look forward to more.
