40D. 400f5.6L at f/6.3. iso 320. 1/800s. This one gave me a few keepers. Unfortunately, I got only a minute or so before he swam out of my range.
All comments welcome.

Superb in all counts IMHO. A tiny issue is darkening the slightly bright area on the chest which draws my attention.

What an amazing low angle picture that is, Kaustubh. It feels like it is swimming out of the frame right where I'm sitting.
I like the HA, details and the soft light.

WOW Kaustubh,
Absolutely no nits from me. One of my favorites of yours so far. Great low angle and HA. Pastel BG is terrific as well.

Kaustubh:
Your trademark low angle, soft background with almost a gradient feel to it, nicely exposed, nice comp.
I might try to tease a smidge more detail out of the blacks below the eye and on the upper chest.
Cheers

Beautiful low angle and as mentioned, great background. What was the subject distance out of interest ?

Excellent image with great sharpness overall i feel the tip of the beak (the black part) requires a bit of sharpness

You only need one winner from a series to make your trip worth while. :w3 Your usual low angle, pastel colours, sharp details, all add up to a fine image. Well captured.

Simon, I am very bad at guessing the subject distance. He was quite close...approx. 20 feet perhaps...or even closer. Its a small duck....but of course still much bigger than song birds :-)
here is the uncropped, unsharpened full frame shot. 40D and 400mm...so effective focal length of 640mm.
