It was warm enough today that the snakes came out.

I like the exact point of focus and limited dof From your vantage point you probably made the best possible image There is a lot of bg clutter which interferes which competes with the snake particularly the stick on the bottom right The best I've done with snakes is getting down to their level with open space behind them .... not an easy thing with snakes !!!!

I too like the isolation of the snake through limited dof. The subtle color and the sharp focus on the head helps separate the snake from the background. If you're inclined to do such post processing, you might be able to soften (blur) that foreground stick a little digitally and to darken the brighter part of it as well. That would give it less prominence in the frame. Good job on a difficult photo. Probably done as well as possible given the setting.
