They don't always show up around here. It seems ever three of four years so really nice to see four of them right on the edge of the salt water foreshore. Perhaps habitat is a bit busy. I toned down a few twigs and stems here and there.
7D, 700mm, 1/125, f/6.3, ISO400. FF and on tripod.
Taken Friday on a cold, windy and dreary day.

Nice exposure and details here. I like the inclusion of all the environment but feel the black in the top right is a tad distracting. Might consider a version with a closer crop eliminating that part of the frame.

Nice exposure and detail here Dave. BG is a bit busy, as you say, but I think OOF enough to not be too distracting. Nice stare by the owl.

I too, would crop a bit off the top, but this species would be a lifer shot for me.
Very envious, just a fantastic bird and you did a nice job with it.

Dave, well exposed, and I like the eye level perspective here. Good eye contact, and although I dont mind the surrounding foliage, I would liked to have seen more of the snowy. Love the colours in the BG.

Dave, a nice treat for you for sure! The only thing I would suggest is maybe toning down the lightest OOF area above his head and the light OOF twig to the left of the frame. Congrats on a nice shot. TFS

I like this a lot! Habitat makes this image for me. Would not crop off the top but maybe a tiny bit more at the bottom.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. Hopefully more owl shots to follow. There seems to be several around and perhaps here for the winter.

Rakesh, I was actually standing in a little hollow in the sand floor of the bay and the owls was a bit higher on dry land.
