This is an old oak stump in my yard with sunflower seeds on top. Nikon D700, 300mm f2.8, 1.4tc, tripod. 1/1000, f8, iso400. Adj wb, exp, blacks, sat in acr. S/H, noise reduction on bg, selective usm on bird and stump, 50% crop in cs3.

Beautiful job on all counts with the bird: SH, head angle, EXP and pose. And except for the URC a nice BKGR.

The big problem is that with the perch having so many different planes the OOF parts in front of the bird are quite distracting.... At the very least you need to break off the two sticks protruding to the right .....

Hi Jack agree with Artie on the perch but everything else is really nice from the pose to the detail you captured.

If you can crop this just above the OOF part of the perch without losing IQ, it would make a nicer photo to me.
Otherwise, fine as is, sharp, well exposed and a nice BG.

Nice pose this Chickadee is displaying. The moss growing on the perch is a nice touch as well. Fine detail within the feathers, great job reperesenting this guy.

I like it very much.Sharp with nice details both in black & whites. Great composition, pose & HA. I also like the Artie's critique.

Jack,

Excellent clean bg and nice sharp features. Light is good here.

Perch become too heavy and to eliminate that i might crop an inch from bottom and make it horizontal frame.

Thanks everybody, when I scroll to eliminate the two protrusions on the right of the stump it looks alot better but I was afraid to crop any more.

YAW. Image quality looks good enough for that crop.
