Another from my collection of Egrets on black. Although I obtained my bg pretty much in camera with adjustments with curves and burn tool there is an article in PoP Photo Jan of last year that features another image I did on black and a tutorial on how to do it using layers. :http://www.popphoto.com/gallery/photoshop-how-fade-black
Canon 40D 300 mm 2.8L w/2x
f5.6 1/125
Removed a few distracting branches adjustments with curves and burn tool NR and Sharpening
Thanks for looking and C&C very much appreciated

Cheryl, very nice. such nice display. I also like the perch...very interesting. I am thinking if some parts of the egret can be made brighter, it might be even better.

Cheryl,

this flying feathers are just superb over the dark bg. i would agree with KD on brightening some parts and addition to a bit USM would be nice to see especially on head.

What say ?

Thanks guys. I went back and adjusted more with curves and added sharpening to the head . I also lightened the eye and darkened the pupil as well as added some saturation to he face. The 40D is very noisy at 640 so I had to use some NR and the IQ seems to go down so I don't know. How's this?

I forgot to convert to srgb on both posts

Cheryl - I was fine with the first post. Just the basic composition, dramatic lighting and pose of the bird had me. You really know how to do that white on black business! I think the lost post (the sRBG) has thrown off the colour of the green part of the face (or maybe it's just my monitor). Even so, I love the image.

Thanks everybody!
Dan Thanks much. It could be because i saturated it when it was still adobe rgb then converted to srgb and it could be over saturated and too much vibrance?

Yes, could be the conversion Cheryl . It looks more like a teal colour to me, rather than the sort of deep limey green I usually see (at least that's what they have way up here in the outlier populations :S3:).
