I came across these 2 brothers (presumably) on the plains north of the Satara Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park in August 2011.

The light was super, and the distance to the subject enabled me to put the D7000 and 500+1.4x combo to the test. I was duly impressed.

Techs:
Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II + 1.4xTC @ 750mm
f8 @ 1/1600 SS @ ISO-800

A very arresting image Morkel. Colour & light work very well and I like the composition of the two lions. The 'windswept' look is very 'in' at the moment.

Very nice Morkel.I wish the lion that is lying down was looking a bit more toward the camera but that is a very minor nit. I see a bit of blood on the standing lion's rump-looks like a deep scratch Makes me wonder about what mishap he had. I like the composition with the lions looking in opposite directions and one standing and the other lying. They are nicely framed by the vegetation. A keeper for sure,
Gail

Morkel - I too like this a lot. The comp works well with them looking in opposite directions and I like the one sitting, one standing. Nice windswept look too.

Morkel,

Very nice indeed, not to sure about "windswept" or " coalition". Lovely muted colours:cheers:

Thanks for the feedback, everyone :bg3:

Very nice indeed, not to sure about "windswept" or " coalition".

Well, Steve was correct, wind was gusting...so it is indeed "windswept"...you can even see the one sitting's mane being swept in the same direction.

And one assumes they are brothers, but they could also be a coalition of 2 non-related males...I prefer the term coalition as a title for the photo. :tinysmile_shy_t:

Morkel,

Thanks for the clarification, but the manes stll do not look windswept to me, but then they are very small.

Love how they are juxtaposed with each other.
I can feel the wind in this one, Morkel Bhai. The image works great as-is, a pano with 1/3rd off the top works very well too. Winner in every way.

Lovely colors and textures. I really like the lack of heavy contrast as it conveys the scene beautifully. Great PP by the way!

Nice looking image Morkel. It's got pop yet also a nice softness to it. Love the habitat.
