Found this prairie rattlesnake and one of his buddies enjoying a bit of Fall sunshine outside their den entrance. Wish the OOF pinkish pine needle wasn't there on the right but I didn't think it prudent to brush it away. 7D, 400DO + 1.4xTCII, f5.6, 1/160s, ISO 1000, +2/3 EC, monopod, cropped to pano.

Hi Steve, I always like the DOF effects with these close up snake images. In this, the head shows good detail, and these guys always seem to have a variety of colours. Have you lost your touch in not wanting to brush the needles away.:w3:w3

Stuart I think if he did we may not see anymore images from Steve :bg3:

Steve, I just wonder if loosing some more from the top might help, say about half? Again, rather you than me in taking the shot.

Steve - Nicely captured. I like the pov and dof. I think Steve's suggestion is a good one (at least a screen crop from the top made the image stronger).

Hi Steve,
I like your image. the composition is good and I like your shallow depth of field.
I like the crop as is and the detail is exactly where you need it.
Well done and thanks for sharing

Steve, excellent shot, I agree with the POV and the DOF as well as the crop suggestion. TFS this very nice image. Where? Roxborough or Red Rocks possibly?

Thanks for the comments and suggestions on this one. I went with this taller, pano crop because I wanted to include the shadowed den entrance behind the snake. Tom, got this one on some open land near a friend's house.
