Early morning a couple of weeks ago - taken a 6.49am - most of the lake was still in shade. The front two seem to be having chat while the third is still asleep. There are a number of things that I would say makes this image not work but then others that make it one of my favorite images taken that morning. WDYT

1dMK4, 500mm + 1.4 ext, 1/1600 @ 5.6, iso400, -1/3 EV.

Thanks Tom

Tom, its always great to capture three in the frame, and a bonus with them all posing in different directions. The whites look on the edge in this, but I do like the water reflection cast on the bodies of the two front spoonies. Placement wise, I would have placed all three spoonies centrally in the frame ( equal space on either side. ) You could have traded some ss for more DOF, as they were stationary.:w3

I like the COMP as is and I love that raised hairdo on the middle bird. Light and WHITE's very bright....

Agree that the whites are too strong - bad exposure on my part. Will tone down more in ACR.

Tom, Are you planning to start from scratch with the RAW file?

Yes I am.

Yes I am.

Good plan: Try using the Exposure and Recovery sliders judiciously so that there are no RGB values in the WHITEs greater than 236.

Here is another attempt. I did note however that the TIFF file when opened in PS had a higher values in the whites than the RAW file in ACR. In ACR nothing was over 236 in the whites. I went for a slightly different crop and sharpened a little more. The whites now look more like they were captured on an early morning.

Way, way, way better on the WHITEs. There is something to say for each crop. I still love the jokester and its hairdo! Well done. And the brightest WHITEs are still plenty white.
