I took this image in SW Saskatchewan at the entrance to Cyprus Hills Park. A pair of birds were feeeding their young, they would take turns flying out and resting on the fence. They soon became used to me, this bird landed almost too close....It's by far the best image of this, for Easterners, to get.
Virtually straight out of the camera, removed a hanging piece of barbed wire and cropped a bit.

Lovely colors on the bird, and the sage BG. Great look-back pose. My knee-jerk reaction was to prefer a different perch, but I suppose barbed wire is a pretty typical perch for these guys.

very beautiful blue bird and looks like you were on monsoon round to have cloudy scene with flat light. IQ is good here

I just love this, I'm still hoping to get my first shot of a bluebird! I especially like the fence in the bokeh and the contrast of his blue feathers on the pale green background.

Love the soft light, the perfect image design, and dof-disappearing barbed wire. Nice BKGR. All in all very well done.

Love the look back pose. Not the ideal perch, but I think it works in this case. Sometimes just gotta work with what you got. Beautiful colors on this species as well.

Hey Paul - terrific shot! Ideal soft and dreamy background, perfect exposure and detail. You got the bird's profile just about perfectly perpendicular. A beauty, especially for an easterner :bg3:

What's the matter with the barbed-wire fence? That it's not natural? Yes, but a barbed wire is at least simple; no stray twigs intervening. I love this species, I love this simple shot, I like your lens. I find your image a bit light, and I'd maybe up the contrast.

Great image, Paul. Love the pose, colours and background. With a better perch, it would be a killer image.

Paul:

A well constructed image, simple components nicely arranged in the frame. Lovely bird, interesting look back pose, pleasant BG.

I don't like barbed wire (having been cut on it countless times as a child growing up in Iowa) but the way this strand fades into the OOF blur helps here.

Cheers

Randy

Paul, I love these birds and the barbed wire doesn't bother me. Nice pose, BG and soft light as mentioned.:S3:
