The Harvest moon is tonight. It's pretty but we don't have much to harvest around here. In celebration I'm going to go harvest some dust here in just a little bit... maybe some dead leaves... a couple of cracks in the ground.

It was only about 10 or 15 degrees above the horizon so there may be a little atmospheric distortion. I'm going to shoot it again when it's a little higher

800 f5.6L IS with 1.4x converter (1,120mm @f8)
EOS1DMKIV
About a 50% 10" x 10" crop in post

Pushed the exposure almost 2 stops in ACR (see below)
ISO 200
1/40s @f8

I used my 2 stops under trick and had to push it two over in post. My trick probably didn't work because I am using the 800mm lens at f8 rather than the 600 @ f4 (duh). At ISO 200 I don't think it suffered from added noise. if I had thought about it I would have set the ISO to 800 at the same settings. Maybe later

Michael - nicely done. I like that we can see the craters on the rhs. The square crop works well too.

Thanks Rachel. I just came in from taking another shot. The yellow is gone but the atmospheric distortion is much less. I have to admit, the 800 f5.6 (and 600 f4 for that matter) make this pretty easy to do

Here in Smithville we're harvesting ashes. It's fun to shoot the moon, but I bet the higher shot has more clarity.

The exposure looks fine and the image looks fairly sharp. I cannot resist those huge moons and suns. Funny thing is I sell lots of the moon and rarely a sun....

Michael,

I would recommend Local Contrast enhancement first to bring out more detail and then sharpen for small JPG.

Thanks Artie and Robert I agree.

It sure looks like it to me

PS- I was in Smithville this morning. We ate lunch at a little cafe near a park adjacent to the railroad tracks.
