Blimey, just look at the mountain of shells here.:eek3:

I dont think the Grey Heron is the culprit!

NR USM levels, contrast large crop

makes a somewhat unusual shot does it not

Hi Richard,
I agree that the shell covered ground is unusual and you have a good title. I am not loving this image as I find it quite busy. The image quality has held up fairly well despite the large crop. Do you have an image with his neck extended above the grasses?

Hi Richard,

I too agree with Gail, and feel that image quality suffers a bit from the large crop. Perhaps a slight blur of the background above the head, and remoal of the red leaves above the head and bill would also help the image. I think we're still waiting for our 1st confirmed Grey heron here on the east coast of Canada, but it would be very hard to distinguish from our common Great Blue.

I wouldn't blur the BG on this one as there is not enough separation between subject and BG to make it look natural. Had you gone a little lower that would have been enough to get the bill tip out of the shell BG. I do like the unique habitat (man that is alot of shells!!), but agree the IQ has sufferred from the big crop.
