The original colour version of my earlier image... taken in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park during May 2011. Some IQ might be lost due to compression for upload...

Equipment: Canon 7D and 500mm F4 L IS lens
Settings: 1/2500s at F6.3 and ISO 400 (image is full frame)

Hi Rudi, I much prefer this to the 'toned' version. It has far more presence, quality of light and overall it's a very good image. Looks as if it could do with a bit hint more in Curves and I'm not sure about the comp, but am on route to the airport so will let others advise. Personally I might look at the 'birds'? in the BKG and wether they should be culled (cloned out), but again, personal taste, but I do find them a little distracting.

Glad you posted this one in colour. :S3:

Hi Rudi,

Excellent IQ and lovely colours. Like the composition but might look at an alternative with a little crop on the left.

Super comp Rudi, and the IQ rocks in this. I like how the lion's head pops from the surrounding grasses.

I just love that grass and how it blends in with the lion. Composition well handled with a good leading line of the torso to neck to head. The only thing, and a minor one at that, is I would have preferred not to have the darker area in the upper left.

Rudi - I too prefer this one. Great light and nice even tone. Love the "mohawk" standing up.
