While Irene passed by me about 150 miles off shore she still managed to really turn up the surf. This image was created three days after she passed I had gone to beach on the second day but the surf was to dangerous in this location to attempt photography.

1D MKIII, 17-40 f/4 at 17mm, 1/10s at f/16, Manual Mode, Evaluative Metered, ISO 100, Tripod, Shot in live mode with 2 stop hard edge grad.

Wicked cool Don!!!! For a 1/2 second I thought pano.....but the sky is well balanced with the FG and this works well with all the elements placed very well in the frame and great timing too! A winner all around!!!

Incredibly cool shot.
Just perfect shutter speed for this. Slow enough to blur, fast enough to make you think you
are going to get hit by the wave.
Congrats on a GREAT shot.

Well done! Really shows the explosive power of the waves. Nice colors and mix of apparent textures too.

Hi Don, at first I was thinking pano as Roman stated but the more I looked at it the more I liked the sky transition from light to dark. To get the sun between those two waves I'm sure took some patience and very good timing.
Nicely handled technically with the grad working well. Good one!!

Just an oustanding image, maybe the best I have ever seen of breaking waves! Your ss was perfect, composition and sky are right on. A pleasure and inspirational to view.
