This has been somewhat of a nemesis bird for me over the years. I never seem to get exactly what I want. With this frame I'm getting closer, but I've still got a ways to go. What I particularly like in this image is the hint of iridescent green on the bird's head and gorget.

Your flash set up seems to work well. great details and stop-action. I like the color as well. Only my taste , but I find the comp. just a bit tight. Again , that's just my taste. The beautiful bg sets of the subject very well.

Lovely display of this little bird. I particularly like the angle of the shot. It is a tight shot and as you mentioned shows off the bird very well.

Beautiful image! If anything bird is maybe a bit big in the frame.

Your hummer series is amazing. And again, I am surprised about the sharpness of the 70-300L lens. Colors and detail are outstanding.

I pretty much like everything in this image. :w3 Interesting to see the varied colours from all the different HB's. I do like the placement in this, and excellent flashwork once again to create the sharpness. What is the BG Doug?

Love the sharpness and pose. Great light work on the bird. Would prefer a less vibrant Bg with some variation in it, but it's a stunner as is.

Thanks Alan! I agree with you about the BG and am working on some new ones.

Love the bird and the flower and the comp but find the BG a bit too green . Still, I would love to have a shot like this in my portfolio.

Hi Doug,

I like your presentation. Yes the bird is big in frame but I think it works ver well here. Pleasing pose with a excellent angle in relationship to the viewer. Lovely!!!

Hey, Doug. Looks good. We spoke yesterday, so you know I agree with Alan on the background but it does still look natural. I also could go with a bit more subtle shadowing on the bird and plant but you explained that was really tough given the parameters of the setup. In any case, it's a successful photo and one I would be happy to have in my files. I think that new lens has made you a much better photographer:S3:

Cheers,
Greg

Hey Greg. I bought this lens precisely because of your claim in your review (http://www.deepgreenphotography.com/2011/06/field-review-of-the-canon-70-300-mm-l-is-zoom-lens/) that it made you a better photographer! This reminds me of the pair of Adidas Superstars I got when I was in grade school that made me both run faster and jump higher! :t3

You should get another pair. I saw your vertical last year and, well, it wasn't Jordanesque. More Uwe Blab.

A superb image.....love the green on top of the head, just felt that the shot was a bit tight for me.
