Saw my first Mule Deer fawns of the year and managed to get this photo of one next to a prickly poppy. Wish I could've gotten the yellow center of the flower to make it more than just a white spot on the plant but this was one of only three shots I managed to get total. Taken just shy of 8 PM on a shaded hillside and wanting to get at least one shot of them this year, I really pushed the gear for this one. 7D, 1-400L, f5.6, 1/40s, ISO 6400, +2/3 EC, HH from vehicle, cropped a little off top and left.

Like that alert pose and the surrounding grasses.

Echo Dans comments above, certainly pushing the ISO factor on this one Steve.

Like the pose, and very impressed with your use of such high iso and the result, well done.

I agree, nice alert pose with good ear position. I would never think of pushing the ISO on my 7D that high.:Whoa!:

Given the right circumstances (higher tonality colors, expose to the right), ISO 6400 on the 7D is very doable as demonstrated here.

Well done for the reasons mentioned Steve.

Used night vision settings for this one did'nt you? I think that this is excellent for that iso and that lack of light. Well done

Love the composition here Steve, very cute. Effective use of the high ISO capabilities of the 7D here...I used to push mine when I needed to as well (anything is better than not getting the shot, eh? :t3).
1/40s takes some doing to get it this sharp handheld! :5
