When I size the photos for the web and upload here, I am not getting large enough photos for some reason.
I will have to do something about it.

Hi Dan, while it is a color image it is too monotone for my tastes. Nothing POPs for me. Definitely needs adjustments.

Jay, easy enough to punch up the colors, however, in reality, the Oregon coast air in the early mornings in the summer is always mostly heavy and misty even
on days like this one with a partial clear sky.
Here is a more saturated version. The original though is true to the scene at the time.

Dan - for uploading do you have the horizontal length set to 1024? In a sticky at the top of the wildlife forum Steve Kaluski gives a step by step process for how to post on BPN that works very well, including the color profile conversion step.

I prefer your middle post, the bottom is too saturated for my tastes with the rocks becoming green. I'm wondering if you can bring out more detail in the sky with either s/h or LCE.

Hi Dan, Regarding the comp you handled it well even though there was nothing you could do regarding the merges between the middle line of rocks and the backround.(unless you brought a ladder with you)
The bird on the left adds interest to the overall. I don't know your workflow but when I work on an image I do it in sections so the changes don't effect the whole image. IMO your saturation increase helped the sky and the far mountains but the balance is oversaturated....

I find the image too busy with two lines of rocks inthe FG, merging with the BG. I don't feel the saturation is helping as the sky is lacking in definition, not color (I guess due to the atmospheric conditions you mentioned) perhaps because exposure was correct for the FG which over-exposed the sky.

Did you investigate a closer image of the starfish? Sometimes going in close and simplifying things is the better option.

I have to agree with Robert here, Dan. For the title to work with the image the starfish needed to be larger for me :e3.
I like the layering though...
