Here is a female Red-necked Phalarope which I photographed just outside Nome in late May.
Interestingly, in this species the females look nicer than the males (I will post a picture of the male later).
The day was windy and partly overcast, that's why the water is gray but the bird has some catchlight on the eye.

What a lovely bird, and beautifully captured. I appreciate the commentary, and look forward to the male.

lovley bird with great HA - I may take a bit off the bottom, a lot of OOF foreground. It is usually the males that look the part. With the 7d at 800iso you must have done some noise reduction in the darks - did you use PS or another application to reduce noise?

Thanks Tom. I checked the file and I am not sure I applied any NR to it.
I sometimes use the Noiseware plugin on PS5 but this photo seems clean to me.

Ok, that is interesting. I have only used the PS noise reduction - still getting the hang of it.

Luis, I like the feather detail and colours on this girl, and you have captured a good swimming pose. Overall nice and sharp, and if anything, I would take a touch off the top.

Luis.
I love this shot. It has a dreamy quality to it. I love the waves in the water. great low angle. The IQ is really good and I am amazed that you didn't use any NR with the 7D at 800. Great HA. Well done,
Gail

The bird is great, but I think the swirl of water adds a lot. Personally, I would not crop the foreground. I like it the way it is.

Luis, what a shot...colors, low angle, HA, sharpness, exp...top-notch. Do you have the same HA in the next or the previous frame? I am guessing that in those frames, the wave in the foreground would not be blocking the view. In choppy water, esp. at such low angle, I always fire a burst when I get the best HA. At times, one gets lucky and one frame has the perfect view of the bird with no wave blocking it.

Wonderful shot on a bird with some very unique and lovely colors. I like the way you've sliced a wafer of sharpness across the bird and foreground/background. Very nice image.

Thanks everyone for all the comments and advice.

Kaustubh, I would have to check the shots on my backup drive but I'm too lazy to do it and I'm not sure there is a better shot in that sequence.
The problem with these birds is that they move way too much while foraging. They move their heads up and down, left and right, making
the eye-contact moment last only a fraction of a second... :bg3:

Love the movement in the water and that detail on the bird is beautiful.
Crop a tad tight IMHO
