Chas,

How big (weight-wise) do you think this guy is? He looks huge.

Not that I need to tell you how good this image is Chas, but for our readers, why does this image work so well?

Composition suits the subject - (a) vertical as the bear is tall in the frame is a good choice, (b) bear is placed left in the frame as he is facing right, (c) enough room above bear as he is looking up and (d) enough room at bottom to accommodate virtual feet and give him a solid base for the image.

Technical - (a) exposure right on, (b) Depth of Field has both the bear and tree in focus and (c) sharpness is perfect.

Robert,

Thanks.
I would estimate the bears weight at 425 to 450 lbs, if not a bit more. :eek3:
He was a monster.

Great image for all the reasons outlined by Robert, plus the behavior captured is wonderful. Were you in a blind? This boy is huge!

Big bear! I like the hanging branches forming a little canopy over the top and the expression on his face says it all.

No blind. I have an exclusive arrangment and have been photographing
blk bears with groups here for almost a decade now.
