Male Burrowing Owl
Salton Sea, Salton City, Calif.

Taken yesterday morning these birds are all over the place along the irrigation ditches you can see them peeking among their burrows. I was happy to get this male out in the open.

HI James,

Love the pose and habitat. I would play with curves to make it a little darker. The composition works very well.

Excellent work!

That's one mean look for such a cute little guy.:) I'm with Maxis on making the owl and the foreground just a tad darker to provide a more 3D look to the image. But other than that small suggestion, I really like the image a lot.

Nice capture James. Love the "look" of the owl. Wouldn't want to mess with this one. Also like the subtle colors and warm tones of the shot. Well done.

Thanks for the nice comments the image as posted was the colors of this males plumage it was quite a bit lighter then the females. I couldn't get any shots of them together were they both were in focus. But you can see the color differences between the two.:)

Cool pose and look, love the extreme low angle. I am with darkening the image slightly.

Very cool pose, great angle and details. It doesn't look too bright on my monitor but it would be interesting to see a version with a bit S/H applied.
