Ian, this shot does not work for me. You got too much going on in image.
At ISO400, the noise is very high, was it underexposed? You could have lowered the SS in this situation. Did you clone the BG? it does not look like a clean job in the center of the top part of the frame.

There are many ways to judge a photo:
1. Originality
2. Technical expertise
3. Composition
4. Artist merit
5. Overall impact,..to name a few.

I actually like the Artist merit here,..the calling and open beak. The IQ looks below normal here, could be large crop, underexposed, maybe too much NR etc. Your techs look good and the kit is the same I use from time to time,..a favorite of Kerry's too. Love the background colors and habitat inclusion. Tell me about the crop size and histogram, was the shot underexposed.

Hi Ian, I agree that there a lot of distracting elements in the image. Would be a possible to clean them up in PS but not easy. Best to get the clean background in the capture. Could you have moved a bit to your left?
