Crested caracara portrait

This image was created in the morning at 8:41am on the lake shore of Indian Lake Estates, Florida. This crested caracara was standing in the high grasses with his mate after they had played around with a turtle. They did not know how to handle the turtle and finally left it alone in search for some easier target.

This image was created with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens at 800mm, and the EOS-1DMIV. ISO 400. Evaluative metering: 1/1250 sec. at f/7.1 set manually. Cropped for composition. Taken from rear car window of a Toyota Sequoia on beanbag.

What a treat to see this caracara so close, and to get a load of those gorgeous details. I really don't see anything I would change. I like the comp, the EXP, the clarity, perfect head angle. Wonderful job!

You are like a magician-you keep pulling out these great images from your (photography ) hat! The details in the whites and blacks are awesome. Love the little hairs(i know-feathers) above the beak. I love it!

A nice portrait of a Caracara with a solid exposure and good detail. I like the green BG too. I'd probably crop a bit off the right side of the frame.

Yes. COMPs like this are often awkward. SH and EXP perfect. You forgot to tell them who your chauffeur was :). I spent all day today micro-adjusting. I borrowed a 300 f/2.8 for the bear boat trip; see you on Kodiak on the 2nd!
