The sandhill crane is an unusual visitor at the Liberty Marsh section of the Wallkill River NWR, usually it's seen briefly during migration only. Almost full frame, I added a sliver of canvas on top and removed some telephone wires from center. 1D mark IV, 800 f5.6, iso 800, f7.1, 1/1250, shot manual mode from tripod and wimberley.

Herb, good top-side view and bird angle. Perfect DOF and composition. If mine, I'd try reducing the contrast a bit.

I like the banking flight pose in this one and the bill slightly open. The primary feathers on the right wing look a little soft and the colors seem to be more saturated than I remember for daylight sandhills. Nicely framed, Herb!

great top view, it's a bit contrasty due to angle of light

Nice flight pose with the slightly banking angle. The light angle wasn't best, creating shadows on the face, and I agree the contrast is strong here. Comp looks good...good call on adding canvas above.

Lovely pose and comp. The slightly open bill adds too. Agree that contrast is on the stronger side. TFS.
