BREAKING THE RULES

Nikon D3s, Nikkor 600mm with 1.4TC, f6.3, 1/2500, iso 1600, tripod. Aperture priority with rapidly changing evening light explains weird shutter speed and iso combo. This is the same lone loon posted on 7-13. Although the image is unconventional, I like it. A bit more eye would help. C & C welcomed.

I like it Gary and the sliver of eye adds to the mystery. Love the crop too. And I always enjoy the reflections from the water on the feathers.

I really like the crop here. There are times when a lack of eye contact doesn't bother me in the least and this is one of those times. I find this quite interesting.

Hi Gary, I like the image a lot but would probably not have cropped it quite as much from the top. Love the pose and the light. Agree that a bit more eye would be nice, but I like the tease of what is there.

Like the image, but the crop doesn't work for me. Feel it is a bit to tight on the right and top, and to much emptiness on the left.

Beautiful color and detail. Like the light reflections on the bird. Crop works for me but I would just a little more of the eye. TFS I would not originally thought this was worth keeping. Live and learn.

There's lots to like here. The mystery of the bird is so inviting I can focus all the longer at all the wonderful details. I like it with a big thumbs up. I wonder what a square crop might do? The BG is terrific and the water as well. a beauty here.
