This marmot youngster seemed to enjoy getting his photo taken as he gave me all kinds of different poses. This was one of my favorites. 7D, 400DO + 1.4xTCII, 6.3, 1/160s, ISO 800, +2/3 EC, HH, cropped a touch off top and bottom.

Hi Steve:

Well I am going to Mt Evans on Tuesday and wondering whether I needed to bring my 400DO and 1.4. You have answered my question. I am hoping to see one of these guys there since I have nevre seen one. You got some nice details here, and I like the one paw up!

Thanks Marina. Do be sure to bring the DO/TC. They'll come in handy for marmot and pika shots. If you like flowers, they're in bloom too so be sure to bring some macro/close up capability as well. If you have any other questions, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Cute animal Steve and I like the pose with the raised foot. The IQ seems a little less than your goats, but perhaps that is a result of the 1.4TC. They have a nice colour, these animals.

Nice capture and comp, Steve. Like the pose, expression, and nice texture to fur.

Hi Steve, all the right components to make a lovely image, but agree with Hilary's observation re IQ. I use the 1.4II a lot and really have never found an issue, so I'm a little puzzled why the IQ may appear to have dropped a fraction, or perhaps it's an old pair of eyes? :2

lovely image, the loss of IQ i think is acceptable considering the use if a TC it doesnt look too drastic. FYI have a look at the new 1.4 III TC i believe it makes a world of difference:S3:

Hi Brendon as there are no moving parts in the TC I don't think it's that. Having just purchased both the 1.4 & 2x MKIII I must admit the 2x is the better investment, the 1.4 is negligible IMHO. :w3

Steve - nice pose, comp and pleasing bg. Perhaps the IQ is just a function of the slower ss and being handheld? Doesn't look like there was a lot of light either based on the techs.

Rachel

Thanks for the comments folks. Regarding the comments on the IQ, this was a lazy, spur of the moment post on my part. It was taken from a copy of another websized version I made that exceeded the posting size, was reduced in size, and saved for the web at 50% quality.

Certainly seems a poser! Love the story here...IQ noted but you addressed that above. :t3

Steve, nice close up, I like the angle of the rocks and his pose looking away with the paw up. Only nit here is his teeth appear to have a green tint to me?? It is late here and maybe I am seeing things.

Thanks for the look Tom. Your eyes are fine. He had two blades of grass in his mouth.
