Hi everyone,
I have been gone for quite some time now. Busy at work, different priorities, the familiar stories. I can't promise I'll be posting and commenting on a regular basis again, as all my time is being taken up by writing my PhD thesis on Black-tailed Godwits. I will certainly try though!
In any case this is my 1000th post. For me getting serious about my nature photography started with the Great-crested Grebe. So a photograph of a pair of Great-crested Grebes fighting that I took recently, feels like the right shot for my 1000th post. I spend one spring in a ditch close to home photographing the breeding behavior of this species about 5 years ago. It was one of the best time I have ever had photographing birds. After that I focussed on other birds. This spring however I discovered a terrific place to photograph and observe their mating rituals and display behavior. It was a tiny outlet of a lake which holds about 20 pairs breeding Great-crested Grebes. The outlet is much to small for 20 pairs though, which means loads of opportunities for fight shots. This is one of the best ones I got. I realize it doesn't show two perfect head turns but for me this shows it all; intense fighting, their ability to jump out of the water and their beautiful colors. The head turns just don't matter to me anymore. Hope you feel the same!
Thanks everyone for being a part of this great community, which I hope to be part of for a very long time to come.
Enjoy,
Krijn
