The past few days in the Mid-Atlantic region have been brutal, with the sun shining mercilessly and the temperature rising well into the 90's. During these hot days, parent ospreys have protected their chicks from the sun, spreading their wings to provide shade on their open nesting platforms.
A local security firm has provided a view into the ospreys' world at a web site titled "Ospreys of Kent County, Maryland." This site provides continuous, real-time coverage of an osprey family nesting on Langford Creek. You can see them here: http://osprey.atlanticsecurityinc.com/.
I have to admire what the parents do to protect their chicks.
