A close up of a Yellow crown Night Heron taken at Ft Desoto. Night Heron bills up close are mean looking things and remind me that birds are decedents of the dinosaurs.

The simplicity of the background really allows the viewer to focus in on the great details in your subject. Could you tease any more detail out of the white strip on his face? How big a crop is this?

HI Grace, this is about 95% full frame very small crop I reworked the white strip but they're really is not a lot detail there.

I love the speckled iris. Nice overall portrait with a very appealing BG. The heronm feels a bit low in the frame, you could crop out 30-40% of the space above (very subjective of course).

Don, awesome portrait of a favorite bird of mine. Beautiful specimen. Wish we could get them against such BG here. BG really makes a big different here.

Great details and good that you got the crest feather up in the air.....and its not too up to make composition difficult. Alos, well done in getting parallel...very important in a closeup like this... to get that crest feather within DOF coverage.
