Early evening, clear, Nikon D3s, Nikkor 600mm with 1.4TC, f/5.6, 1/640, iso 200, beanbag on truck window frame. I like everything about this image except the perch. C & C appreciated

Hi Gary, I agree with your self-assessment. Very well done and the perch isn't that big of a deal IMO. A very slight head turn would put this one over the top for sure. Also just a bit more sharpening for web presentation. Nice detail, color, and background. Is this a juvenile?

I like this very much Gary. The perch is soft and unobtrusive. Very nice shot.

Gary - nicely done. I like how the softness of the feathers comes through. I agree with Kerry about another round of sharpening. Just a couple of other nits - there's a slight halo around the head and there's a dust spot or something between the bird and the perch just behind the branch coming out of the perch.

TFS,
Rachel

Repost after another round of sharpening and smudge removal. Kerry, I'm not certain about the age of the subject. Was happy to get proper ID. According to the web, the young have brownish upper parts and a narrow white terminal tail band. This subject does have a subtle brown hue to the wings. May be a youngster. Thanks for the question, it prompted me to do a little research.

Well, the bird chose the perch so I don't mind it Gary! The sharpening has really improved the image. The head angle is close to being OK but agree a little more towards you would be great.

I liked the image before, but the added sharpening made this bird pop. Love it.
