This Cedar Waxwing was one of about 2 dozen that stopped by a tree with frozen berries for a short snack. They were absolutely beautiful. They stayed for about 45 minutes then left and have not come back. Maybe they are tried of the snow and went south for warmer weather. Sure wish we had some warm weather too.

Canon EOS-1D Mark II N, Tv(Shutter Speed) 1/800Sec. Av(Aperture Value) F8.0, Evaluative metering, Exposure Compensation +1 1/3. ISO Speed 640, Lens: EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM +2.0x, Focal Length 600.0 mm. Hand held out of truck window, subject was 15 feet away. Light was harsh, from my left and almost in front of me.

Beautiful detail in the face and good head angle. The bird is too tight in the frame, but I like your placement of the bird to the left so that he has room to look out. The stick behind the bird is a distraction. Hope you get more opportunities to photograph these beauties.

Hi Grady!

Very nice! I love the detail and soft light. If you are not opposed, I think the back branches detract, and there may be a dust spot on the breast.

Wow! High key portrait with a lot of pleasant tones and colors on the bird! You should try to remove the OOF branches in the background.

Nice find and I agree with Linda's comments. I think it is a Bohemian Waxwing.

Nice sharp head details Grady. I'll echo Axel's ID - Definitely a Bohemian. You can tell by the rust-coloured feathers under the tail.

Thank you for the ID correction. I cropped this one tight on the left because it had an ugly oof berry and branch there. I realize some may not like it so close to the head. It will make a 11x17 print. I hope they come back as I definitely will be looking for them to take more images.

As per Linda and in addition the face and eye could use a bit of work. Most important: the bird is too big in the frame.
