I photographed this guy yesterday on Marrowstone Island, Washington. He never came in as close as I would have liked. I had no cover and was actually sitting in the sand at the waters edge---they are not that easy to get close too. A flock of Brants were there as well and seemed to make the Harlequins more at ease. I have chosen to leave the double catchlight--this was taken in natural light, no flash and I think it makes the eye more natural.

One of my favourite ducks Bonnie and you've captured him well. Nice low angle and the colours show up nicely.

I love it, Bonnie! I have not been able to capture one yet. This is quite marvelous and I will follow it as a very nice example! And that 2X with your 300 yielded a very nice result. I may have to invest in a 2X extender to go with my 70-200 f4L - would give some nice longer flexibility with that lens.

Beautiful image Bonnie! You didn't need him any closer, this is just right in the frame. Beautiful detail, and I like the wave just lifting the ducks front. Agree that a bit more contrast is needed. Lovely image.

Great pose, angle and exposure control. I agree on more contrast.

Well worth your efforts Bonnie. Beautiful capture and a lovely low angle. I love the natural light and the eye contact in this image. Fine work !!!!
