Thanks for the comments guys. The dark patch is actually patches of different colors in the water, not sure what is the cause. I never really noticed it before (in the image I mean), but hope the separation from the BG is enough not to detract.:S3:

I love the DOF that shows the bird perfectly from wingtip to wingtip. Light is nice. I am OK with the BG but would prefer his head be firmly in the blue layer
