Dear Dutch nature photographers, why not shoot wonderful nature images and contribute to the documentation and conservation of your subjects at the same time? You can do so by taking a little extra time to visit the website of the national biodiversity database and fill out when and where you saw the species you photographed. Go to www.telmee.nl (http://www.telmee.nl) or www.waarneming.nl (http://www.waarneming.nl), register, and document your findings regularly. The data is used for research on species distribution and contributes to species conservation nationwide.
Additionally, you can contribute your images to the national online biodiversity repository, documenting ecology, protection and taxonomy of all Dutch species. You upload small versions of your images (so no worries about illegal use), the species identification and photo suitability are checked before they are taken up in the repository. Copyright stays with the photographer and you can leave your contact details should somebody be interested in using your image. The website is a great repository for species identification as well, so the more images are contributed, the more useful it will become! I've been able to confirm many ID's through the reference images on the website already, but the database is far from complete yet (with exception of popular species). Go to www.nederlandsesoorten.nl (http://www.nederlandsesoorten.nl) and upload your images!
