Pectoral Sandpiper
Barrow, Alaska
D3, 600, ISO 640, f8, 1/2000.
I'm just in from a great tip to Barrow, Alaska. I joined Matthew Studebaker on his workshop and had one of the most productive weeks in photography in some time.
This is a Pectorl Sandpiper in breeding plumage with an inflated pectoral sack. Whenever I will think of the North slope tundra, I will think of the booming flight call of this species.

Well....you just make me drop my chin again and again. Nothing more to say.

Nice one. Great exposure, pose, and sharpness. Good job using the perch to raise the bird out of the tundra grasses.

Not too simple, not too complex; the smooth BG is like a canvas on which you painted this story of sandpiper and tundra flowers. The vegetation is of just the right amount; just enough to give us a sense of place. The bird is clear of the vegetation.
