Had the pleasure of photographying this young chick last season in the wildflowers. As you can see, he/she was born to pose/model.

Canon 1D3, Canon 100-400L
F5.6, 1/2000sec, ISO 200, manual mode
Handheld on my belly down in the sand

C & C always welcomed and appreciated,

Very intimate portrait with a nice sense of habitat. Good eye contact, and sharp where it needs to be. The bird is a little low in the frame, but I'm not sure I'd like much more OOF sand at the bottom of the frame.

I like it as it is. Very cute and I love the low angle and the habitat. More OOF lower part would be distracting IMO. Nice capture.

Very cute shot, I almost wish the OOF mound was not in the front of the image, but as Ive seen on BPN we like to be critical in our images. You have captured an adorable moment with this chicky

What a cutie.
I too wish the OOF mound wasn't there, but I bet 95% of people other than us on here will never notice it :S3:

Awww, what a cute little one! What bugs me about the OOF mound is not as much as it is there, but that it is skimming the chick...perhaps getting higher a few inches, and then lowering the lens would have given you some separation. Love the setting!:S3:

Do you recall which species this was?

Whoops. This is a Least Tern, Daniel. I would guess that it was about a week old.

Marina, cute little guy, and camoflauged nicely with the sand. Although the surrounding foliage looks good, I would maybe turn this into more of a pano crop.:w3

Love the angle, subject and environment.

The only thing I wish for is that the greenery directly behind the little ones bill was a bit further distant or not there at all but I do realize these sit close to cover for a reason.
