This is a shot from my 2010 West Coast Flight workshop with Jim Neiger. I'm really looking forward to getting back to California in July for this year's workshop!

Great, Doug.

Not much to say about this dynamic, excellent image except wow! But one question I have is whether the white blotches that appear forward of and above the eye are a normal part of the bird. If they are not, I would probably remove them by cloning.

Hi Norm. I believe this is normal transitional plumage (from breeding to non-breeding). It would have been nice to get a bird with a full black cap; hopefully this year!

Thanks Doug.

Learning about bird transitions is as interesting as viewing beautiful photographs such as yours. And again, this is a great, dynamic and most interesting image. :S3:

Great Job Doug..

After trying for terns last weekend for the first, time I appreciate how tough these guys are to get a good image of.

Thanks Ofer! I don't think I'd get a lot of takers for a hand held 600mm workshop! :w3

Killer wing position Doug, and sharp where it counts. The orange of the beak stands out nicely, and good to see it open too.
