This is a nesting peregrine falcon, from the Palisades Cliffs overlooking the Hudson River, shot from above at about 500 feet elevation. 1D mark IV, iso 640, f7.1, 1/1600, manual on a tripod with wimberley.

Stunning dorsal view and pose. Sharp with a perfect EXP and a sweet, sweet BKGR. What was the BKGR?

Lightening the front of the face and the irises might improve an already great image.

Herb:

He is so rigidly stretched out, that he really looks like a fighter plane, going on the attack.

Sharp, well exposed on top, agree with Artie about a bit of lightening on face.

Dramatic pose.

Well done.

Cheers

I agree with Randy's fighter plane comparison. Really cool pose! Better lighting of the face would take this image to the next level.

Herb, this has such a 3D effect, and just love the flying posture. Sharp, with good eye contact. Very well captured.

Perfect dynamic pose and not a feather out of place (looks so aerodynamic)..Small nit is the BG noise but thats minor...What a great image and takes some skill to capture these speedsters in flight!

Wow! Very different view of a falcon. Can you tell us how you got it?
Agree with lightening up the face.

Cool shot. There is quite a visible halo around the bird which spoils it for me. No-one else seems to notice it though??

Herb, I really like this shot. Very unique vantage point and terrific details. Compositionally, it is strong...very well done.

I see what looks like a small sharpening halo on the leading edge of the wings but only when I tilt the screen....

Thanks for all of the comments. Artie, the BGD is the Hudson River. Waves from the river are parallel to the bird's wings and are slightly evident.
