For a while now I've wanted an image of this species depicting its trunk clinging "nuthatch-style" habit. I had a "traditional" songbird perch all set-up for this little guy, but he one-upped me by giving me this pose instead:c3: I was pretty happy with it.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/6.3, ISO 800, -0.7 EC, natural light, handheld, slight crop to strenghten the comp. The brightest area of the BG, near the head, was much too bright and neon lime-yellow - thus tweaked via burn tool, sponge tool, and selective colour. Dodged part of the belly as it was a tad dark for my taste. Audio + blind used.

What a great shot Daniel. I love all the PP techniques you used. I love the pose and would be thrilled to call this my own!

Very cool daniel - caught in the act. These birds must be very strong to extend out from the tree like this. I better pick my game up now that I can see what is possible with the 7d.

Daniel, congrats on the 7D. Very nice first post. Pose, exp, comp, sharpness is all excellent...but what I like the most is the bokeh. The 40D club is shrinking :-)

Good luck with the 7D. I did love mine. Shoot Jim an e-mail at the office and have him send you a complimentary copy of the 7D User's Guide. (https://store.birdsasart.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=285)
