Photographed this tanager last fall in Brazil at a feeder set-up and in the rain. You can see rain drops on the bird and in the background. I used a tripod and fill-flash at -1.

Canon 7D, Canon EF400 f4 DO IS, ISO 500, 1/500, f5.

C & C very welcome.

Nice looking bird, sharp with lots of detail. Nice pose and excellent use of fill flash. Perch may be a little overpowering but, hey, that's where he decided to pose for you.

Nice image Nancy. A most attractive, colorful bird that is sharp and well exposed. I also like the over the shoulder look and the background but agree that the perch is not the best fit for the little bird.

Beautiful exposure and detail, like the HA too. Sure a smaller perch would have been preferred but you get what you get and this is a stunning bird. TFS, Ann

That's a great shot and I'm amazed at the sharpness throughout at F5. How close were you?
And I like the perch, it's the habitat where the bird lives, but I've learned since joining here I'm much more a naturalist than artist.

Thank you everyone for looking and commenting. I was probably 15 -20 feet from the bird (give or take some as I am pretty bad at estimating distance :t3).
