I am working through all the combinations of tripods and heads to figure out which way to go. It can be a bit over-whelming trying to figure out what all the pieces you really need are - so this group is always great. here's my situation.
I shoot with a Canon 7D and a 100-400MM (sometimes with a 1.4x TC). I am getting a Canon 580ex ii flash and Better Beamer.
I do travel with this set-up (Turkey this Fall) and am concerned with space & weight - but trying to not break the bank. I was trying to piece all the components together to get into a Wimberley Sidekick - but by the time all "above the tripod pieces" were priced they came in at close to $800. (Arka-Swiss Z Ball Head, Side Kick, Plates) - and that was before adding a $700-800 tripod. I saw the Safari series from Gitzo and wondered if anyone had any experience with the gk2520ft
