Good reds on the little guy, and I like the pose. I would maybe move him up in the frame a bit. There is a band of noise around the bird, as if you havent selected close enough to the subject and perch.

Nice Pose..And Exposure , BG also nice, but I also think.. You have not selected the bird properly.. for Blur BG..You can use Quick Selective tool In Photosoft.

Stuart, you should see the males in full breeding plumage!

Lucky to have these in your backyard! I agree with the comp suggestion, and I do see the noise band around the bird and perch. I would also darken the bright spot above the head. Good flash work, but fine details seem a bit coarse...either due to a big crop, or sharpeing/resizing technique.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I was having eye fatigue or else just didn't pay close enough attention to my layer mask....anyway here's a repost. It is suffering some from a fairly large crop as Daniel suggested but I have not seen a juvenile before so I kept it.
