Preparing Breakfast

I have often mentioned how these Pied Kingfishers bash their catch against the perch to make it softer to swallow. This is the actual moment the poor fish is bashed against the perch. This will go on for a while. Taken in overcast conditions in the Pilanesberg nature reserve last weekend. Im glad the eye is still visible considering the angle of the head.

I think the soft overcast light woks to your advantage in this image. Very well done. Nice story telling image. The perch is a bit over-powering , but I know it was not your choice. Sometimes we gotta shoot them where they land.:w3

Nice behaviour captured Stuart, I am allways surprised they don't damage their beaks with the amount of bashing they do. Nice feather detail and sharpness.

I really like the story told here. Exposure is great but I wish for a little more of the eye showing.

If this were mine I might take a bit off the left so that the kingfisher isn't so centered in the image, perhaps having the perch come out of the corner of the image?
