It seems that the 1D3 AF problems do not occur in the 1Ds3. Is this correct? and if so, does anyone know for sure why? I am hesitating buying a 1Ds3 to replace my much loved 1Ds2 because of my concern. Thanks. Bill

Hi Bill, at all costs I do not want to get involved in yet another MKIII debate. I have been using the MK111 and 1DsMKIII on and off for my press and sport work for some time now. Please feel free to mail me and I will be happy to share my experiences with you. In brief I will say the journey was NOT problem free and I have now reverted back to the old bodies.

Best Wishes Steve

Dont forget Bill and Steve you can always use the search function at the top right of all the forum pages to access past threads. I agree with Steve 100%, we dont need another thread on this subject.

Here are a couple of threads on the same general subject:

Thanks guys. My search had not turned up those threads. I have now read them and decided to keep using my 1Ds2.

There are some significant differences in the AF mechanics and timings between the two cameras due to the size of the mirror box and also the frame rate. The 1Ds3 has twice the settling time between frames than the 1D3 has. the AF algorithms are also re-tuned to the longer time between frames. All of these will play a role in the AF acquisition and will make them behave differently even if the electronics and sensors are identical.
