It was quite a workout getting to these guys yesterday. They were close, proximity was not the problem. They were very heavily backlit and on the wrong side of the trees. It took quite a detour around and underneath some heavy brush to get the light coming from behind me and having the birds on this side of the branches. Walking on my hands and knees, doing the military crawl, lying on my back and pushing with my feet across the snow, all the while protecting my gear from scratches and bumping...glad I was hidden from view!! Man that stuff was thick! Anyhow came away with a couple of good images, well worth the workout. When I got home and took off my shirt some broken off twigs fell to the ground! LOL!

Canon Rebel XT + 100-400L @320mm, 1/500s., f/7.1, ISO400, no EC, handheld ~90% full frame, cloned out a twig top right corner.

Love this picture, the detail is impressive, that lens is really good as I can see.

Well worth the effort, Daniel! You have captured some lovely detail in a bird that is hard to get any. I think you did very well with the exposure, as it seems the light was very bright when you finally got to it!

Top image Daniel especially for hand-held!!!! Excellent detail and nice pose - selecting a moderate aperature has kept the BG soft and non-obtrusive. Nice work!!

THe effort paid off nicely Daniel. Superb image for sure!
